Sanderson Farms Sued for False Advertising

Sanderson Farms Sued for False Advertising

When you think “100% natural,” you don’t connect it with anesthetics, antidepressants, and rave drugs, do you? So how does it make you feel when you hear that once again the “100% natural” poultry supplier Sanderson Farms has yet another lawsuit being brought up about its contaminated chicken flesh?

In a recent article from Bloomberg, Sanderson Farms is being held accountable for “49 instances in which samples tested positive for residues of chemicals and prohibited synthetic drugs, including five findings of chloramphenicol.” Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic known to cause bone marrow suppression in humans. Other antibiotics and chemicals, like butorphanol, ciprofloxacin, pesticides, and ketamine were also found.

While Sanderson Farms has had multiple lawsuits brought against it while refusing to acknowledge the chemical-laden state of their product, they have not been brought to justice yet. We at In Defense of Animals have called out Sanderson Farms in the past for the offence of misleading their consumers about the very-real dangers of being infected with antibiotic resistant bacteria.

The best thing you can do to avoid being infected is by simply swapping out meat for alternatives. Find them in the vegetarian freezer section at Target, Safeway, Publix, Kroger, Albertsons, BJ’s, and most other grocers. Not only are alternatives like Gardein Chick’n Crispy Tenders better for your health, but they will also spare millions of chickens from a lifetime of suffering.
