Act Now for 23 Abandoned Cats

The caregiver of a colony of nearly two dozen community cats has picked up and left without telling anyone. The abandoned felines are in an impoverished area of southern New Mexico, and we may never learn what happened to them. What we do know is that 23 forsaken cats urgently need your help if they are to survive.

We are working with Broken Promises Rescue, a small but determined rescue organization that has helped reduce cat euthanasia rates by over 20 percent. Broken Promises works in two of the poorest counties in the country to solve the community cat problem at its roots: by humanely preventing kitten births through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts. But the sudden call to help an abandoned feral cat colony of nearly two dozen is overwhelming this grassroots charity’s bootstrap budget.

At least four of these abandoned cats are friendly and can, with support, be adopted into loving homes. Thankfully, some of the feral cats are already micro chipped and spayed or neutered. Some are not. Broken Promises Rescue needs our friendship and whatever prompt funding we can send so they can care for these cats – TNR, vaccines, veterinary care, and nourishing food.

Despite the hardships – in an area where abandoned cat colonies go more than a month without any rainwater at all and overpopulation hits hard – Broken Promises is making a difference.

Through grit, and passion and sheer determination, their bootstrap rescue efforts are winning for cats in southern New Mexico’s poorest counties.

Since their founding just a few years ago, Broken Promises has helped over 1,000 cats. ONE THOUSAND cats! Euthanasia rates for cats have declined more than 20 percent. It’s lifesaving progress.108 cats now fill their TNR waiting list, and they do not have a dime left to spare.

We are asking today for you to help In Defense of Animals extend a micro grant that will give Broken Promises Rescue the emergency resources they need to help this abandoned colony of 23 cats.

Please give now to save the lives of these cats who urgently need your help.
