Campaign to Introduce Veggie Dogs to American Ball Parks Gains Momentum
Chicago White Sox first big league team to test meatless alternative

Mill Valley, CA…In Defense of Animals (IDA) is lending its support to actress/producer/activist Johanna McCloy, best known for her role as Ensign Calloway on television's Star Trek, The Next Generation, and her ongoing campaign to introduce veggie dogs into Major League Baseball stadiums.  Veggie dogs are a natural alternative to the "traditional" meat-based fare usually found at the ball park and their incorporation into the "national pastime" would be the perfect way to set a precedent by mainstreaming vegetarian fare at larger venues.

Efforts of this campaign are starting to generate interest. The Chicago White Sox will be testing the veggie dog from June 19 to July 2 and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be testing it soon as well. Spread the word and if you're in the Chicago or Los Angeles area, head to the stadium and enjoy the game meat-free!  If even 10% of a stadium's crowd opts to eat veggie dogs, it would have an incredibly positive impact on our environment and on animals.  Multiply that 10% by the number of stadiums that might potentially offer veggie food options and the effects could be really significant.

IDA is asking for your support of this groundbreaking campaign. Call your local sports teams, write letters, and let the teams' Guest Relations and Concessions Managers know that you would appreciate being able to purchase veggie fare at baseball games and would do so whenever you're in attendance.

For more information about this campaign and to find out what you can do, please visit Johanna McCloy's web site. Also visit VegSource where the feature article is about Johanna's campaign. The article gives a short background about her endeavors and includes links to pertinent information, including a list of every baseball stadium in the country and their concession companies, making it very easy to write a few words, make a call or send a letter.  Or better yet, speak to the concession manager in person the next time you're at a game.
